What is the shelf life of PCB?
And how to determine the baking time and temperature?
After the PCB is manufactured, it has a shelf life. If it exceeds this shelf life, the PCB must be baked, otherwise it is very easy to cause PCB explosion during SMT production and manufacturing.
The storage time of PCBs, as well as the temperature and time for baking PCBs in industrial production ovens, are all regulated by industry standards.
1、 PCB regulatory standards
1. PCB disassembly and storage
(1) The sealing of the PCB board has not been opened, and it can be immediately put into use within 2 months from the manufacturing date
(2) The manufacturing date of the PCB board is within 2 months, and the disassembly date must be marked after disassembly
(3) The manufacturing date of the PCB board is within 2 months. After disassembly, it must be launched and applied within 5 days
2. PCB baking
(1) If the sealing of the PCB is opened for more than 5 days within 2 months of the manufacturing date, it should be baked at 120 ± 5 ℃ for 1 hour
(2) If the PCB exceeds the manufacturing date by 2 months, it should be baked at 120 ± 5 ℃ for 1 hour before going online
(3) If the PCB exceeds the manufacturing date by 2 to 6 months, it should be baked at 120 ± 5 ℃ for 2 hours before going online
(4) If the PCB exceeds the manufacturing date by 6 months to 1 year, it should be baked at 120 ± 5 ℃ for 4 hours before going online
(5) The baked PCB must be applied within 5 days (with funds invested in IR REFLOW), and after the application is completed, it needs to be baked for another hour before it can be put into use online.
(6) If the PCB exceeds the manufacturing date by 1 year, (remember to use high-temperature packaging paper to maintain the surface of the board), bake the board for 2 hours at 120-150 ° C. When the temperature reaches, turn on the electric oven and press it until the board is fully automatically cooled. After that, the board can be used for cleaning before application. (Need to press the anti board bay fixture), then send it to the PCB factory for tin spraying again before it can be put into use online
3. PCB baking method
(1) Large and medium-sized PCBs (with 16 PORT above and including 16 PORT) are placed in a placement style, with a maximum of 30 pieces per stack. (Remember to use high-temperature packaging paper to maintain the surface on the top of the board. Bake the board for 2 hours at 120-150 ° C. When the temperature reaches, turn on the electric oven and press it until the board is fully automatically cooled. After that, the board can be used for cleaning and application. (Need to press the board bay fixture) (Need to press the board bay fixture) (2) Large, medium, and small PCBs (with 8PORT below and including 8PORT) are placed in a placement style, with a maximum of 40 pieces per stack. The total number of automatic styles is not limited. When baking the board, a flat thick steel plate must be used to prevent it from being placed on the board. (Remember to use high-temperature packaging on the top of the board) Maintain the surface of the paper, bake the board for 2 hours at 120-150 ° C. When the temperature reaches, turn on the electric oven and press it until the board is fully automatically cooled. After that, put the board out and clean it before use. (Need to press the anti board bay fixture)
2、 Storage and baking of PCBs in different regions
The actual storage time and baking temperature of PCBs are not only related to the manufacturing capability and processing technology of PCB manufacturers, but also have a significant correlation with the region. The shelf life of PCBs produced using OSP processing technology and pure immersion gold production technology is generally 3 months after packaging, and baking is generally not recommended for OSP processing technology. The storage and baking time of PCBs are closely related to the region. In southern regions, the humidity in the body is generally heavier, especially in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces. In March and April of each year, there will be "south wind days" with continuous rainy and cloudy weather, making it very humid and cold. PCB must be used up within 24 hours of exposure to air, otherwise it is very prone to air oxidation. After everything is normal in Kaifeng City, it is best to use it up within 8 hours. For some PCBs that require baking, the baking time is longer. In the North China region, the temperature is generally dry and humid, and the storage time of PCBs will grow longer, while the baking time can be shorter. The baking temperature is generally 120 ± 5 ℃, and the baking time is determined based on the specific situation.
To analyze the storage time, baking time, and temperature of PCBs in depth, it is necessary to select them based on the PCB regulatory standards, the manufacturing capabilities, processing techniques, and regional variations of different manufacturers.
